We’re all trying to stretch a buck these days and it seems we’ve got less and less of them to stretch. When that happens, it’s time to get creative. Here are 7 strange ways to save money.

1. Soda, So Good

There’s very little that baking soda can’t be used to clean. So you can stop buying those expensive cleaners they keep pushing on you every time you favorite show goes to commercial. It can be used all over the house on everything from cleaning surfaces, removing stains and odors, even in the laundry. The possibilities are endless here.

2. Forget Mr. Clean, Meet Mr. Coke!

It’s cheaper than beer. It can be used to keep garden pests away and can help fertilize plants that thrive in acidic soil. It removes rust around the house. You can use it in baking as well and it can even be used on tough laundry stains. There’s never been a better reason to have a Coke and a smile.

3. Fun With Toilet Paper

It always amazes me when I see folks buying toilet paper, paper towels and napkins. Why not just by one of these? Your best bet is to use paper towels exclusively as these are cheapest but if you’ve got to have toilet paper for those personal moments, then buy it in bulk and also use it for napkins and for those messy spills. Why buy 3 papers to do the same job?

4. A Clean Shave With… Crest?

Believe it or not this works. A small amount of toothpaste goes a long way and gives you a close shave. So if money’s a little tight then next time you’re in the pharmacy for toothpaste and shaving cream, pick up only one of these and you’ll double your fun. Go with the toothpaste though. I don’t recommend brushing your teeth with shaving cream.

5. Bulk Up

Sending letters will cost you more than $0.50 a pop these days so if you’ve got family or friends you correspond with regularly, then why not send stuff out in bulk? Don’t mail a letter then a day later ship out that book/sweater/gift you need to send to this person. Do it all at once. Time it right and you can include birthday/Christmas gifts as well.

6. Cut Your Hair

Believe it or not, if you’re a little short, then having your hair follow suit will save you money. Switching to a shorter hair style, you’ll use less shampoo, less electricity blow drying, less styling products, making what you have last all the longer.

7. Wake Up And Smell The 21st Century

It’s been difficult for some folks to embrace computers and all the strange things they can do. But if you’re wallet is a wasteland these days, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. And you can save a bundle on postage by paying your bills online. Also, you can send e-greetings for those special occasions. You can even pay back loans from your friends and family with electronic checks. When it comes to saving money the computer can be your best friend.

With the economy still on the mend, many families are becoming more knowledgeable about the importance of budgeting and saving than ever before. There are literally dozens of ways the average household can cut expenditures and save more money each month. To help you get started on the seemingly overwhelming task of reigning in your family’s spending, here are seven basic money-saving tips to abide by:

Distinguish Between Needs and Wants – For many families, the line between needs and wants has become increasingly blurred. But you’ll be surprised by how much you can save once you learn not to mistake wants for needs. Needs are simply the items your family needs to survive including clothing, food, shelter, and transportation. Wants are the items that would enhance or improve your family life but are not inherent to your survival. So while your family probably needs a car, it probably doesn’t need the luxury SUV to get around. This isn’t to suggest that you shouldn’t have the things you want but purchasing wants when you really don’t have the money is a recipe for fiscal disaster.

Use Credit Cards that Pay – If you are going to use credit cards, switch to cards that pay you back in the form of cash dividends, miles, gas, or other goods you’ll use. Just be sure to pay off your balance in full before a full billing cycle (to avoid paying interest) and never charge something you can’t immediately pay off. If financial control isn’t your strong suit, you may be better of simply making purchases using cash.

Track Monthly Expenditures – Determine just how much it costs to run your household by tracking expenditures for exactly one month. Not only will this help you devise a budget, it can also help you pinpoint areas where your family can save more money.

Budget, Budget, Budget! – Let’s face it… no one really likes budgeting; it can be cumbersome, time-consuming, and for many, a rude awakening to reality. To make it easier and more enriching, make budgeting a family affair by involving your spouse and children. This will make it easier for everyone to stick to the budget and it can be a valuable learning experience for your children.

Read Consumer Product Reviews – When it comes to big purchases (think kitchen appliances or even a new car), everyone wants to get the most bang for their buck. To help you find the best models and products within your price range, consult consumer product reviews which can yield rich insights into how well a particular product works, how long it lasts and whether or not it’s worth your hard-earned cash.

In tough economic times almost everybody looks for methods to save cash. Shopping for groceries expenditures account for 10% or more of the average family budget. Many families are finding means to eat healthy and still save cash.

A great way to save cash is to use grocery coupons. Buyers may save on the price of an item and every now and then even obtain excellent deals like purchase one item and obtain the next item at no cost or at reduced price. You could discover discount coupons online, in magazines as well as in advertising materials that the grocery stores are promoting. You could likewise find discount coupons at the backside of an item tag as well as the backside of your receipt. Customers account for paying fifty percent less than the usual cost of the food. According to one source, 76% of American shoppers take advantage of the savings offered. Savings were used by eighty six percent of women and sixty eight percent of male shoppers. Quite a lot of customers are eager on trying to find discount coupons to the extent that they group them alphabetically or according to the item.

These discount coupons are usually valid for recognized products and store products. Customers who wish to buy ordinary products or the not so known brands won’t be able to use these discount coupons since they are normally distributed for specific brands. It is believed that more than one hundred billion U.S. dollars in discount coupons circulate every year then again, just under four billion U.S. dollars are traded in by customers. One explanation for the inconsistency can be that they are simply not finding the savings meant for the items that they acquire. Given that almost all major brands on the shelves of America’s grocery stores offer recurrent chances to save cash on their items, they are visibly not reaching their target market. Because a lot of persons are now doing things online, a lot of customers obtain and print these discount coupons from the websites of the stores. Some brands make savings obtainable via cells phone messaging. Advertising innovation is visibly necessary to increase the distribution of brand savings.

Given that lots of websites presenting online grocery savings services are rising in figure, this problem has been solved to some extent. These websites are giving data about all obtainable grocery coupons on the net and give customers a searchable list of savings opportunities where they may pick the savings from the list for the items they use (i.e reducing expenses with coupons for groceries). They likewise present discount coupons that you could effortlessly print at home and utilize at the grocery store. Bigger franchise stores intentionally show discount coupons on the shelves of the items they are giving the discounts on. Customers must then often inspect the packaging of the item they acquire regularly. Commonly, manufacturers would offer savings meant for future purchases of the same item on the wrapping. Like for instance, if you regularly purchase a specific kind of bread then customers should purchase the packaging which includes a discount coupon instead of the one without to be able to use it for upcoming purchases. To summarize, customers could also make use of discount coupons that are being presented within big franchise stores such as walmart store coupons on many of their store items.

If you drive a petrol-engined car with no perspective to switch to hybrid or electric vehicle, you can still save some cash on fuel and be eco-friendly at the same time. Here is how to do that:

Image via Wikipedia

Make your car lighter
We all tend to carry some unnecessary items in our cars. Unfortunately it makes them use more fuel. So take a look in your boot to get rid of all these things that add weight and remove the bike rack if you are not going to use it.

Keep a steady and reasonable pace
When you drive fast, more fuel is needed to combat the increasing air resistance. In fact car’s fuel consumption is most effective at 30-50mph. You should also avoid speeding towards stop signs and traffic lights and then braking rapidly.

Do not leave your engine idling
Turn the engine off when you are not on the move. If you are going to be stationary for more than 10 seconds, it is more economical to stop the engine and then restart it. Remember that idling means zero miles per gallon!

Clean your car’s air filter on regular basis
The air filter prevents dirt from entering the engine of your car. When dirty, it can increase the fuel consumption by even 10 percent! Fortunately, air filter is easy to clean, so you can do it yourself regularly; and even if it needs changing, it won’t cost you much.

Use the air-conditioning only when it’s necessary
The more you use the A/C, the more you have to spend on fuel. Nevertheless when riding faster that 40mph, it is better to rely on air-conditioning and keep the windows closed in order to avoid increasing the aerodynamic drag.

Control tire pressure
Check your tires’ air pressure regularly – if they are under-inflated you will have to tank up more often. Most gas stations have an air pressure gauge and pump that you can use free of charge.

Find your bicycle…
…and use it from time to time – especially if your destination is close by. You will not only save some cash, but also keep fit and considerably reduce your carbon footprint.

Easy to say, difficult to do – or so you may think. But give it a try. Here are some simple ways to save energy and reduce your spending.

1.When cooking, always use lids. This simple rule can save you up to 15% on energy. In addition, your meal will cook faster.
2.Make sure your house has proper insulation. Check all ducts, doors, and window frames. Seal all cracks that let air in and out. This will help reduce the cost of heating, which can be expensive during winter time.
3.Avoid heating or air conditioning when unnecessary. Always turn it off when ventilating the room. Do not overheat your home. Try putting on a sweater before turning the thermostat up.
4.If you have a programmable thermostat, make the most of it. It doesn’t take long to adjust the settings, and the savings will be worth your time. If the house is empty during working hours, you can definitely turn the heat down. You may try doing the same at night, which can also contribute to your health.
5.If you have window shutters or outdoor roller-blinds, use them to control the temperature in your house. They can prevent warmth gathered inside the house throughout the day from escaping at night.
6.Don’t keep refrigerators and freezers colder than necessary. The correct temperature for refrigerator compartments is 38 degrees F, and for a freezer it is 5 degrees F. Avoid leaving fridge or freezer doors open for longer than necessary.
7.Reduce the temperature of water while washing clothes. 90 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) should be enough to get your clothes clean in most cases, as detergents are now effective at low temperatures as well. The same applies to your dishwasher.
8.Avoid automatic drying. This applies to both clothes and dishes. Let them air-dry if possible.
9.Do not leave electronic devices on standby as they still use energy. It may not seem like much when we consider them individually, but it adds up quickly. We have so many of these devices – TVs, radios, DVD and CD players, and much more. This rule may not apply to computers, but you can turn off the monitor, copier, printer, and scanner when taking a break.
10.Always unplug battery chargers once your mobile phone or MP3 player is fully charged. Disconnecting the device is not enough, as leaving the charger in the socket still consumes energy.

As you can see, saving money doesn’t have to be difficult. These simple tips should help to cut back your energy intake and reduce your bills. Try them – they do not require any investments and you will see a difference in your utility bills. Maybe the money you save will let you invest in energy-saving appliances in the future!

Every person needs to know how to live frugally, especially during these tough economic times. However, you must also know that there is a thin line between being frugal and being cheap. You don’t want to always freeload on your friends whenever you go out. Sometimes, you have to do a little of your part too. The main goal here is to live reasonably without being extravagant. Let’s look at some of the things you can to save some money.

Always Be Conscious

The first thing you want to do is to be conscious of your spending habits. Don’t just fill whatever kind of Unique Wallets you have with an awful lot of cash. This would only cause you to spend more. What you can do is to control your money. Always remember to check the contents of your wallet every time you go out. Are you carrying more cash than usual? You should remember to bring only the amount you need.

An example of this would be when you go out for a movie. Bring enough money for the ticket, food and cab ride. You don’t need anything else. This would help you get away from the temptation of buying useless things along the way.

Prioritize

Bills should be your first priority every month whenever that paycheck comes knocking in. Remember that by living frugally, you don’t get to do or buy everything you want. On the brighter side, you get to live efficiently without constantly worrying about bills piling up. After your bills, you should prioritize your food and travel allowance. Always spare enough money for your gas, so you wouldn’t have to snitch money from your savings.

Wants versus Needs

Most people get easily beaten by temptation. Those that are used to having what they want cannot easily adjust to a frugal lifestyle. Learning what you need from those that you want relies on your ability to prioritize. Instead of dishing out cash from your travel wallet every time you see something pretty at the boutique window, think twice first. Will this be of any use to me? Is it practical? Ask yourself important questions repeatedly and decide the proper course of action.

Look for Affordable Entertainment

Sometimes we need some fun in our boring and monotonous life though it doesn’t have to be expensive. Yes, you can go out to see movies every now and then but there are many other things that you can do, which can save you a lot of money. Instead of going to the movies and spend cash from your money clip wallet, why not invite some friends over and rent some home movies. Surely, there are other movies you haven’t watched before. You don’t have to get along the movie hype all the time.

Sometimes the cheapest kind of amusement is to socialize with your friends. Studies even show that we are happier when we are around with friends instead of watching a movie.

Just remember that there are so many affordable activities you can involve yourself with to have some fun. All you have to do is be more creative. Have fun while using your brain not your wallet.

Current Financial Crisis

The real issue of our current financial crisis making front page news these days is not just the end result started from the weak housing market, fallout from the US sub-prime mortgage fiasco, sliding home prices, stock market volatility or geopolitical unrest in the Middle East, the collapse of Bear Stearns or Lehman Brothers, rising unemployment or inflation. Very easily, all these may be viewed as the real issue of our current financial crisis but in fact they are not. They are just consequences of the spending pattern in America, blowing out of proportion. So much so their country financial expert has put it as they are a country of financially illiterate people. Therefore, the real issue now is how to change this lot of “financially illiterate people” into “financially literate people”.

This term “financially illiterate people” right away brings home a message for me. Our local schools have all along been paying a lot of emphasis on academic achievements. These days, some of them have even incorporated character building in our children curriculum. How about financial management education? Should the schools start to think about balancing their syllables – academically, character development and financial education?

Just before our country education system incorporate financial management education into their syllables or perhaps they may not even wish to consider it, won’t it be better for us, as parents, to teach our next generation the value of money management or wealth creation, starting from as young as they can understand the value of money. Not to take the risk that their schools will look into the matter for us.

From statistics, young adults under 25 are now the fastest-growing age group to file for bankruptcies. Most social problems stem from financial problems. Therefore, it is always important to stress to our young ones that spending less money than they can earn is fundamental to their basic financial well being. Differentiating between needs and wants is a very important discipline we have to cultivate from young and be imparted to our next generation.

As parents, we have to set example to show our young ones that in order to lead a care-free life, arithmetically speaking, we need to have a personal net worth that is very heavy on the personal assets and very light on the personal liabilities. If possible, no personal liabilities at all.

Hence, “Living within one’s means” should be our motto in life.

Saving money can be difficult. After all, most of live on relatively tight budgets already. However, there are few things we can do that will help increase our savings balances quite a bit. With the easy system our family uses, we save on our grocery bill by using free grocery coupons. If you are serious about saving; give them a try.

Image by Jill – Glossy Veneer via Flickr

A great way to boost your savings are:

Be sure sales are sales. Store frequently place certain items on sale during set times of the year. Two for one sales are popular. However, a 2 for 1 sale doesn’t save money if the store increased its price while placing it “on sale”. Be aware of stores who constantly have insufficient stock. The hope is the shopper will buy what is on the shelve. Ask for rain checks. Some of our best buys are when we combine doubled coupons with 2 for 1 sales.

Check expiration dates of printable grocery coupons. Some sale items have dates soon to expire. It isn’t a good deal if the date goes out before it can be used.

Be careful about sale conditions and limits. Do you have to buy $25.00 worth of groceries to get the sale price? Is there a limit to the quantity? Is the sale only for Friday – Sunday? It’s not a deal if you have to buy more than you need to get one item.

Don’t buy convenience foods unnecessarily. Convenience costs more. I would never suggest to forgo use of convenience foods. However buying fewer or buying only on sale will save a lot of money. Consider learning how to create your own convenience foods. Many sites have recipes for such food items.

Whole wheat is only whole wheat if it says exactly that. “Wheat flour,” “unbleached wheat flour,” and “wheat,” all just mean some variety of processed white flour. “Wheat” bread is nothing more than white bread with enough whole grain thrown in to color it. “Wheat blend” pasta is yet another trick to make you think you’re buying whole wheat.

Finally, what size bananas, eggplant and other fruits or vegetables should you buy? If they are sold by the piece, buy the biggest, to get the most for your money. If they are sold by the pound, buy the smallest. You’ll still eat one banana at a time for a snack, right? The small ones might be half the price of the large, saving you money with every snack. When it comes to saving money shopping, there is more to it than grocery coupons.

P.S. Learn how to be frugal and save money on car loans – car finance calculator can help. If you know how to use it properly.

If you are looking for some quick and easy ways to save some cash this year, then here are a few tips of money saving pointers that you might like to consider for your own finances.

Mobile Phones

Image via Wikipedia

Have you reviewed what you are spending on your mobile phone recently? Do you have a package offering you over 2,000,000 free texts and 500 hours of free phone calls each month that you don?t use fully? OK, a huge exaggeration, but how many free minutes and texts are attached to your mobile phone bill? Because the shocking news is that they are not really free. You are paying for the honour of not using them in your monthly tariff. If you are not using all of your inclusive texts and all of your inclusive free minutes then you need to speak openly to your network provider, tell them how many texts you actually need and how many minutes you use a month and see what tariff you should actually be on and it should be lower. In fact running a careful review might show you that a few paid texts and minutes would do less harm, you just need to text less and speak shorter.

Utilities Bills
Energy prices are on a roller coaster at the moment. They shot up a few months ago and have now come down again recently, but only slightly? But has your energy supplier given you the full benefit of the price cuts or have you been left high and dry and paying a lot more than you should do? Have a look around, maybe use a comparison website to see what you could be paying if you moved elsewhere.

Review Your Borrowing
How much have you currently got borrowed in your mortgage and with the recent collapse in mortgage interest rates is your mortgage serving you as best it can? Have a quick word with a local mortgage broker who can understand your financial circumstances and ask them to compare all mortgage rates for you. Is the current mortgage deal you are on the best available to you and what would it cost to move to something cheaper? It may be cheaper for you to stay put if you have high exit penalty charges, but if there aren?t penalty fee or they aren?t too great, then you might save yourself a tidy sum by moving to another lender. When your mortgage advisor compares mortgage rates for you, they should also be able to look at your current mortgage to tell you how much it will cost to move.

That?s just three quick and simple ideas to save you potentially loads of cash each year. If you want to save some easy money in the short term, then you can start saving straight away.

Grab timely experiences in the topic of forex trader – your own guide.

Why learn how to create a home budget? If you’ve been looking at the newspapers and stories on the Internet, you have probably heard that creating a budget is very important. It’s only by tracking our incoming and outgoing money that we can see our personal financial picture. We’ll know how much we spend every month and exactly who it goes to. We’ll be able to find places to cut our expenses and put the difference toward savings, or an emergency fund, or debt.

If you have debt, particularly credit card debt, you will want to make sure you pay it off as soon as possible. Every dollar you owe is costing you money. Rather than putting that money to work for you, you are letting someone else build their wealth from it. Every dollar of debt you pay off is like a raise for you. It gives you more money for you to use to your own advantage. If you have debt, put as much money as you can, every month, in to paying that debt off.

1. Start with the family. Get your family together and explain your finances. Discuss how you are creating a budget and why. Talk about the need to live within your means. Maybe even talk about rewards for saving money, such as a family outing or vacation (paid with saved cash, of course).

2. List costs. Then, your next biggest. Continue listing them, from largest to smallest. Leave nothing out. Then, go through the list and look for ways to cut expenses, from the top to the bottom. Every little bit, adds up. Hint: Look at what you are spending on food. There’s almost always room to save, try to make sure you get ALL of them. Snacks, drinks, magazines, gum from the vending machine, etc. The more you can list, the better you’ll be able to estimate your budget. Start tracking every expense, to the penny, starting now. Over time, your list will be more complete.

4. Include an emergency account column. By assigning funds to these two categories, every month, you will be planning for, and protecting, your future. For the emergency fund, your goal should be at least 6 to 10 months of expenses. After you hit that goal, you can reduce your donations to this fund.

5. Ensure to include expense categories for recurring, but not frequent items. Things like care maintenance or doctor visits don’t happen very often, but they do happen. Setting aside funds in these categories will help keep you on track and away from items like your emergency fund!

Use this list as a starting point to learn how to create a household budget. It’s not step by step, but these tips should help point you in the right direction. Every day you wait is another day where you have no control of your money, your savings, or your future. Do it for you. Do it for your family. Just do it.

Read about how you can help to save money and support your budget. Start saving money on car loans with the help of auto loan calculator and its proper usage.
